How to join a motor club

Motor clubs run most of the UK's 5,000 motorsport events a year. How to find one near you, what membership leads to, and the club events you can enter in a standard road car.

The short answer

Find a club near you with Motorsport UK’s club finder, join as a member, and go to an event. Motorsport UK says hundreds of clubs run around 5,000 events a year, and some, like AutoSOLOs and navigation rallies, are designed for standard road cars. Once you’re a member you can apply for a competition licence and enter regional and national championships.

    Find a club

    Search Motorsport UK’s club finder by area and discipline. For bikes, look for ACU or AMCA clubs; oval racing and autograss run through their own promoters and NASA.

    Go and watch first

    Pick one of the club’s meetings on the calendar and walk the paddock. Clubs need marshals and volunteers too; see how to become a marshal.

    Join

    Join through the club’s own website or at one of its events.

    Enter a club event

    Start with an event your car or budget suits: road rallies and car trials use road cars and the free RS Clubman licence. Which licence you need covers the rest.
